Connecting an audio/video device using the Lifestyle® VS-2 video enhancer

Audio/video devices include: Blu-ray Disc™ player, DVD player, VCR, camcorder, Apple® TV, cable/satellite box, etc.

There are several types of video cables to use when setting up your system. Choose from the list below and use a connector that is compatible with your TV and devices to provide the highest possible video quality.

Connecting the VS-2 video enhancer to the TV

Insert one end of the video cable(s) into the VS-2 video enhancer Video OUTPUT labeled: "To TV"

Insert the other end of the video cable(s) into an available input located on the back of your TV. This is an example using an HDMI® cable:

Making video connections from your audio/video device(s) to the Bose® system

The type of connection that you decide to make from the VS-2 video enhancer output to the TV may impact the connection types that you can use from your external device(s) into the VS-2 video enhancer. Below is a chart that explains this:

  • Insert one end of the video cable(s) into the Video OUT on the back of your audio/video device
  • Insert the other end of the video cable(s) into one of the available Video INPUTS on the VS-2 video enhancer. Even though they are labeled as CBL-SAT, VCR and AUX, they are suggested inputs. You may connect any device into these inputs. (Blu-ray Disc player, Apple TV, etc.)

When connecting an audio/video device using the VS-2 video enhancer, you must connect the audio to the media center using the same input you use to connect the video. For example: If you connect a satellite box using HDMI to the VS-2 video enhancer through the CBL-SAT input, you must connect the audio cable through the CBL-SAT input on the back of the media center.

There are three possible output connections on your audio/video device.

1. Analog

2. Digital coax, also may be marked as S/PDIF

3. Digital optical

If your device has all three options, choose either digital coax or optical for the best audio quality.

You must now make your audio connections from the same connected device to the Bose media center.

Making an analog connection

On the back of your audio device, insert one end of the RCA plugs into the AUDIO OUT jacks. The jacks are white for left and red for right

Insert the other end of the RCA plugs into the AUX Audio IN jacks on the Bose media center. The jacks are white for left and red for right

on the bose remote, press aux. the lifestyle® display will show "aux" as the selected source of audio

on the remote, use volume + and - to control the overall sound of your product

Note: If another device occupies the AUX input, use any other available input on the back of the Bose media center and select that source.

Making a digital coax connection

On the back of your audio device, insert one end of the digital coax cable to digital AUDIO OUT. This might be marked as S/PDIF

Insert the other end of the digital coax cable into the black AUX Audio IN jacks on the Bose media center. This is the bottom jack marked D for digital

on the bose remote, press aux. the lifestyle® display will show "aux" as the selected source of audio

on the remote, use volume + and - to control the overall sound of your product

Note: A digital signal will override an analog signal when connected to the same input.

Making a digital optical connection

Some optical cables come with a protective cover. Make sure to remove this cover before making your connections.

On the back or your audio device, insert one end of the optical cable to the "Optical Out" or "Digital Audio" output

Insert the other end of the optical cable into the Optical IN jack on the Bose media center. This is the optical input on the left

Turn on your TV and choose the correct input to see the Bose system menu on your TV screen. You will need to have a video cable connected from the Bose system to the TV in order to proceed
